A life-changing event, a new era of our life has begun. After few months of hard work, it felt really good this morning, when I opened my eyes and I saw a smile on my sunshine's face. It was worth trying and it was worth keeping up the hard work.

2-day vacations

We just realized that a short trip to Niagara can be pretty damn refreshing.Good to know....

Toronto weather has been amazing this winter. Most of the times , I have been able to walk (short distances) in my shirt without wearing a coat.

What happened to -40 ? global warming might know the answer?!

Resolution for New Year

Surprisingly, my new resolution in the year of 2012 has nothing to do with what I thought I should do in 2012. It started by noticing the fact that I do not notice how serious I think of my problems and how my mind always generates a halo of complexity around a problem which may not be as complex as it looks all or may not be as important as I take it. I have always followed the advice of scholars and have tried to apply what they have had to say. One of the major guidelines of my life has been the following Einstein quote:

“Problems cannot be solved by the same level of thinking that created them.” Albert Einstein

However, my understanding of the above quote was that to solve a problem effectively, one must built a higher level of thinking in which the problem can be analyzed by all its related elements. A creative mind may – silently – add a few unreasonable elements to such problem and make it a more complex and complicated problem. There is no proof that complex problems can be only solved by solutions that are more complex than these problems. Therefore, even complex problems may have simple solutions. A thinker who sees the problem the way that the problem is and tries to find the simplest yet most effective way of dealing with it is what I call a “Happy Thinker”. One of my main resolutions in the year of 2012 is to understand/adopt and apply this method if thinking.....

Upsetting situation...

Just wanted to write down about few things that are really bothering me right now.

- Alex is taking a lot of my mind and I just don't know the consequences of not having him...

- I wish there was an easy way to get a replacement for him

- I really want to find another Alex for us but it just seem impossible right now as we have other priorities.

Maybe these are the last few years that we are struggling for these things. I came to work and I was already really tired. The whole night I was thinking about what Ifs !

I went to imgfave, "Make me think" collection and saw tens of them to see if they can make me feel better . I guess it's my defense mechanism towards annoying feelings. I feel a bit better now.

I hope in few years, when I check this post again, I see our life at a different stage.

To Alex: You were kind to us and we will always remember you.

Washington D.C

I had a very busy week in Maryland and Virginia...on my way to Washington Dulles Airport I witnessed one of the worst thunderstorms that I have ever seen, It was pretty much the kind of tropical storms that I saw in Mexico. Due to crazy weather situation, our flight had almost 4 hours delay and I got to Toronto really late.

These days, I'm often bothered with a mixture of sad or rather unwanted feelings. so far, I wonder if all these feelings are caused by real factors or some are simply just made by my creative imagination. (creative in creating problems that do not really exist or may not happen! ) . Another reason could be the fact that I have heard at least one shocking news every other day.... the only good thing is soon there will be nothing left and of course nothing can go wrong when there is nothing left ....... It all reminds me of this amazing quote:

Earth - An unfair Place

We all know the eveloution theory and we know that It's about the survival of the fittest and not the survival of the best. well that indicates that life is all about survival and it's easy to imagine that survival is all about competition. Hence a massive competiton is going on and since we are not all identical, we have to use our given power and features to compete better. This effor makes the world and unfair place to live in.

Past few weeks......Mean of the mean is the mean...

OMG! past few weeks have been very very crazy for me as I have had a very busy work-related life and also a lot of assignments for STATS. A fast-track course in statistics requires one assignment every thursday while each assignment takes between 10 to 15 hours. Anyhow , tomorrow will be the end of it and I'm counting seconds for 10:00 pm when I hand-in my paper. For today, I will be reviewing "Statistical siginificane", "Interval estimates for Mean and population proportion", z and t distribtutions, normal and binomial distribution. Continues and Discrete r.vs and hypothesis testing and the mean of the sample mean which is the mean and it is mean to mean that you don't know what I mean.

Done with Exams+....

Wow..Finally, one of the best feelings in the world is to feel free from obligations...Past few weeks has been really crazy in my life and I have not been able to focus on my hobbies which is a bit sad....but I had no other options. I had to arrange so many things and moreover than anything, exams and assignments were driving me crazy. last night I wrote the exam for Organization Behavior which was my last FW2010-2011 course. Looking up to summer for more research and I have an appoinment with Grad School director in the coming week.. It paves my way for the future... (fingers crossed)...

Germany Trip

We came to Germany last week as we were visiting CeBIT. We had a flight from Toronto to Munich and another one from Munich to Hannover. We met a nice German family and they invited us to their AMAZING small town called Heidesheim. WE WILL NEVER FORGET THIS CITY.

Tomorrow, we are going to London, UK and from there we will go to Sheffield.

A snapshot of my life in 27 Jan 2011

Started working on a replication at 8:30 AM and have been busy since then. I don't know if I was ready for this much load but I got to handle it anyway. This week, starting Saturday (a trip to colocation for 8 hours) was one of the worst weeks of my life so far. Living in a IT war zone, have seen attacks from almost anywthere. From team members to customers . School also had made sure that I get enought problems. Two assignments were appointed this week and I have to wrap them up before i head to Germany. Anyhow, that's what is it for now and I got to deal with it....

Challenges of Business

Looking at the recent business catastrophes and corruptions, one must ask that what’s going on in our business sector. While the general belief indicates that with so many business experts and MBAs in the market, business health should be improved, evidences and stats show otherwise. Business corruption is not a new product and has been around for centuries. To understand the underlying reasons that cause business corruption we should examine components that are affecting business in general. One these elements are established and definitions are stabilized, we can see their impact on business growth or failure.
Every business at one point or another is dealing with internal and external factors. These factors are divided to three group of General, Specific and Internal. “General environment”, as an external factor and being the widest one, is the part that consists of six key forces. We can say that all businesses are almost equally exposed to these general factors. Here they are:
1. Economic forces (downsizing, bankruptcies, recession, boom, exchange rates, interest rates)
2. Political forces ( New regulations, de-regulations , border regulations)
3. Competitive forces (pure competition, monopoly, oligopoly)
4. Technological forces
5. Global forces (9-11, SARS, Hurricanes, Trade agreements such as NAFTA , climate change)
6. Societal forces (societal norms, values, ethical beliefs, demographic changes)
The second group of elements which are closer to the kernel of business is the “specific group” . This group consists of parties and groups that have a direct influence on the business. Here are the most important parties:
• Customers
• Suppliers
• Labor pool
• Competitors
• Unions
• Resellers/Agents/Distributes
• Local public
• Media
• Local and federal Government

This group sometimes is called “Stakeholders environment”. This becomes more clear when stakeholders are defined as “individuals or groups with whom business interacts and who have a stake , or vested interest in the business” .
The third group, which contains elements insides the organization is called “Internal environment” . Three major parties that form the internal environment are as follow:

1- People – People Management
2- Business strategy
3- Business Structure


Business and social responsibility:
There is no doubt that every business’s primary goal is to provide goods and services in a profitable manner. Although a lot of business efforts are focused on fiscal activities, there is a societal aspect of the business that some companies fail to provision. This aspect consists of:

• Environmental issues
• Bribery and corruption
• Workplace condition
• Product liability
• Political influence
• Ethical issues
Despite the old and common belief that business and ethics are not heavily interrelated, the recent trend indicates that there is a demand from society for businesses to act ethically. With the growth of media and its coverage, a lot of ethical or unethical behaviors of business have been exposed to the public and has resulted in a dramatic change in society-business relation. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) refers to those obligation and responsibilities of an organization that goes beyond the production of good/services and acting within the legal framework.

Day-by-day execution...

It seems to be better when you try to make the best of everyday. Have been doing it lately and it sounds better to me. Not a very big fan of long-term schedules. Well the goals and hobbies have to be clear, however it feels more practical if you focus on execution of each day separately.
